Feeling the blahs right now? Not a news flash I’m sure. Many are. I know I am. It’s hard to put your finger on it. Even if things in general are pretty ok, it’s feels hard to shake that feeling of …meh.

Perhaps you call it Groundhog Day. Me, I call it wash, rinse, repeat. But not in a good-hill-repeats-on-my-bike kind of way. More the “FFS, why do I have to do this again?” kind of way.

The emotional long-haul of the pandemic is getting me down. And there is in fact a term for it. It’s called Languishing.

Languishing is the new normal.

Adam Grant wrote a good piece about this in the New York Times.

“Languishing is a sense of stagnation and emptiness. It feels as if you’re muddling through your days, looking at your life through a foggy windshield. And it might be the dominant emotion of 2021.”

The struggle is real. Some feeling it more, some less. Feeling it on one level or another. What has been normalized, is still not normal. Not normal! And bloody exhausting.

Just know you are not alone. A good many are in the same boat with you.

How about we make a deal? I’ll cut myself some slack if you do. Because at least we can do that. We are allowed.

Let’s be good to one another. Let’s be patient with ourselves and patient with others.
